Anheuser-Busch Brewery
The red-brick industrial city where one St. Louis family turned beer into a global empire.

Anheuser-Busch Brewery
The Anheuser-Busch brewery in Soulard is more than a factory. Its enormous brick complex preserves the architecture, technology and family ambition that made St. Louis synonymous with American brewing.
The Story
Anheuser-Busch grew from a nineteenth-century St. Louis brewery into one of the world's best-known beer companies under Eberhard Anheuser, Adolphus Busch and their successors. Refrigeration, pasteurization, rail transportation and aggressive national marketing helped transform Budweiser into a mass-market American brand.
The Soulard brewery expanded into a dense industrial campus of brewhouses, stables, offices and production buildings. Its architecture turned industrial scale into spectacle, while the Busch family's influence spread into parks, restaurants, sports and landmarks throughout the region.
What Remains Today
The historic Soulard brewery remains an operating Anheuser-Busch production facility and visitor attraction, with numerous landmark buildings still in use.
