Kate Clark's Brothel
A fashionable downtown brothel tied to the upper end of St. Louis's nineteenth-century sex trade.

Madam Kate Clark operated one of the substantial houses associated with St. Louis's Gilded Age vice economy.
The Story
Kate Clark was remembered among the prominent madams of nineteenth-century St. Louis, operating at the more prosperous end of a sex trade that ranged from elaborate houses to desperate riverfront establishments.
Her story belongs to the period surrounding the city's controversial Social Evil experiment, when prostitution was regulated through registration and medical inspection before organized opposition helped overturn the system.
The historic site has been swallowed by the modern downtown landscape near today's Ballpark Village.
