Minnie Kraedler's Brothel — Blood in a Brothel

A Poplar Street brothel remembered through one of the darker stories of St. Louis's vice era.

The historic 105 Poplar Street site was associated with Minnie Kraedler and a violent episode in the city's nineteenth-century brothel district.

The Story

Minnie Kraedler's establishment belonged to the Poplar Street vice landscape, where brothels and saloons operated close to the riverfront economy.

The site's remembered 'Blood in a Brothel' story reflects the violence and vulnerability that could accompany the city's sex trade beneath the bureaucratic language of regulation and public health.

The historic address no longer survives in its nineteenth-century setting, making the location another piece of downtown history largely erased from the modern streetscape.
